About Fred Pfeifer

My work begins with curiosity.

I explore what happens when paint, gravity, motion, and time work together. Heavily inspired by harmonographs, I create original works on canvas using a simple pendulum or multiple interacting pendulums to build layers of intersecting lines and patterns.

By adjusting the suspension, movement, rotation, paint flow, and interaction of colors, I guide each work while leaving room for gravity and momentum to shape the result. Each finished piece exists somewhere between structure and chance—intentional, but never completely predictable or repeatable.
